Sage Tincture

£12.95 – £29.75Price range: £12.95 through £29.75

Sage 1:3 Tincture
(Salvia officinalis)

Sage is a medicinal herb with a wide range of uses.  This sage tincture is made with dried sage leaves.  Beware of cheaper sage tinctures available for sale. Often these have been made with fresh sage leaves.  Tinctures made with fresh material are less expensive to make because fresh herb material weighs more than dried herb, and so less is needed to make the tincture. Tinctures made with fresh herb material lose their medicinal qualities within one or two weeks of bottling, by the time they are opened they have little health benefit. This tincture has been made with dried sage leaves and all the medicinal properties of the plant are well preserved in the liquid.

Sage contains phytoestrogens, chemicals which are very similar to the oestrogen we produce naturally.  Sage has been shown to be helpful in reducing menopausal symptoms.  You can read some of the research here and here.

Interesting research is emerging on the role of sage in supporting brain health and memory, you can read some of the research published here, here, and here.

Sage has traditionally been considered to have antiseptic properties, and sage has traditionally been taken to help with sore throats, bleeding gums, and other infections in the mouth and throat.  There is some modern research on sage and it’s benefits for oral health here and here.

Sage contains essential oils and antimicrobial chemicals which are may be beneficial to the digestive system.

Dosage: A typical dose is 1-3ml (15 – 45 drops)  in water before food once or twice daily.

Ingredients: This tincture is made in the traditional way, by hydro-ethanolic percolation, with a ratio of one part Salvia officinalis leaves to three parts liquid. The liquid is 55% water and 45% sugar beet derived ethanol.

Caution: This product is not intended to treat or prevent any illness or disease. If you have a health problem it is recommended that you consult your physician.  Not suitable for pregnant or breast feeding women, or for young children.

Store in a cool, dark place.
